DEFINITIONS 

Headaches in children are common and usually not serious. Like adults, children may be exposed to migraine, daily chronic headaches or headaches due to stress, although the symptoms may be different. 

In some cases, headaches in children are caused by infection, high levels of stress or anxiety, or mild trauma to the head. That is why it is important to pay attention to symptoms of headache in children and to consult your doctor if the headache gets worse or frequent. Headache in children can usually be caused by medication without a prescription and other lifestyle and what is done at home. 

SYMPTOMS 

Children have the same type of headaches as adults, although the symptoms may be different. For example, migraine in adults always affects only one part of the head, in children are often located on both sides of the head. Migraine in children is also not the case for long.

- Migraine
Migain can cause:
• Pain in the head
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Upset stomach
• extreme sensitivity to light and sound 

Even a baby to experience migraines. Children who are too small to tell you what went wrong and make crying and holding her head to indicate severe pain. Migraine in children can be lost in 1 hour or more. 

- Headache due to tension

- Cluster Headache

CAUSES & RISK FACTORS 

Cause

Several factors, one or a combination, can make your child prone to headaches. Among others:

• Genetic trend. Headaches, especially migraines tend to decline in the family. If you have a family history of migraines, your child will have a high risk of experiencing as well. 

• Trauma to the head. Conflict and bruises on the head can cause headaches. Although many head injuries are minor things, seek medical help immediately if your child fell violently on the head. Also contact your doctor if your child continues to have a bad headache after head injury. 

• Pain and infection. Headache is a common symptom common in many pain in children. Ear infections, sinus infections, colds and flu are often accompanied by headache. 

• Environmental factors. Environmental conditions including weather changes, can cause headaches. 

• Emotional factors. High levels of stress and anxiety (often triggered by problems with friends, teachers, or parents) can play a role in a lot of headaches in children. Children with depression may complain to the headache, especially if they have problems in regulating their feelings of sadness and loneliness. 

• Food and beverage specific. Additives in foods monosodium glutamate (MSG), found in many foods such as bacon, bologna and hot dogs, which are known to trigger headaches. Also caffeine, the soda, chocolate, coffee and tea may cause headaches.

Risk Factors 

All children can experience headaches, but usually happen in:
• Children above 10 years of age 
• Men before their puberty
• Women after their puberty
• Children in families who have a history of headache and migraine
