Ice Cream Headache

DEFINITIONS

Ice cream headache occurs in a short time, It's commonly appears about 10 until 20 seconds although some people experince much longer lapses of pain, with the pain seeming to relate to the same side of the head as the cold substance was applied to the palate, or to both sides of the head in the case of swallowing.

Ice cream headache attacking the head when you eat or drink something cold. Ice pops, frozen liquid beverage, ice cream and other foods and beverages that give the effect of "brain freeze". Ice cream headache also known as brain freeze or cold-stimulus headache. 

SYMPTOMS 

Ice cream headache symptoms are:
• Sharp, stabbing pain in the front of heads
• The peak of the pain occurs about 10-20 seconds
• The pain is rarely longer than 5 minutes 

CAUSES, RISK FACTORS & PREVENTION 

Causes

Ice cream headache caused by cold material that moves from the rear roof of  mouth to the back of throat, which occurs when you eat ice cream quickly, or sip a cold drink. Scientists still are not sure about the exact mechanism causing the pain.

One theory suggests that the cold food or drinks when ingested alter blood flow in the brain for a while. Some scientists suspect that the pain caused by mouth-to-head via the trigeminal nerve, which deliver the sensor information from the head and mouth to the head.

Risk Factors

Ice cream headache can have an effect on everyone. But it may be more vulnerable to happen if you have a tendency to migraine. Ice cream headache was also more common in people who have headaches.

Prevention

To help prevent ice cream headaches, eating cold food and drink slowly. The only way to avoid ice cream headache is to avoid cold foods or beverages that cause ice cream headaches.
